PIERCE'S DELL
Lincoln, MA

This small modern house, architect built in 1937, is sited on the windward side of a steeply wooded hill.  Seasonal run-off from the hill, at times violent, eroded the site and flooded the basement.  As part of a master plan, new drainage systems re-routed rainwater into a degraded vale below the house.  The vale was cleared of accumulated debris and basins were built to slow water run-off, allowing it to percolate while creating breeding habitat for migrating amphibians: spotted salamanders, spring peepers and bullfrogs.
